My big idea is to create an installation where people can experience sensory overload and to encourage them to educate themselves on what it feels like for someone who experiences sensory overload.
Anamorphosis introduces people to what sensory overload may feel like for someone. By overstimulating someone’s senses through a series of rooms that have bright colours, weird smells, odd tastes, loud noises and strange textures. The definition of anamorphosis is a distorted perspective that requires the view to occupy a specific vantage point or in this case, it is about the distorted perspective and understanding of what sensory overload that requires the public to change their perspective.
Through posters, the installations and pamphlet people are able to learn more about sensory overload. The poster introduces them to what is in store at the installation as well as my main idea which is to change their perspective of sensory overload through Anamorphosis.
The installation is where the users get to experience their senses being overwhelmed through a range of different ways. Each sense will get to experience what overload may feel like to someone who does experience sensory overload. This targets the public who have a limited understanding as to what they may be seeing when someone appears to be throwing a tantrum when in reality they are reacting to the signals that their brain is sending out.
The pamphlets are a reminder of what they have learnt at Anamorphosis as well as a box breathing technique which they can apply to their own lives or to help someone else when they may feel overloaded.
Anamorphosis focuses on learning by teaching the public about sensory overload as well as taking notice and connecting. By having the public take notice people they are helping people who experience overload to feel more supported and connected to their community.
